What does Rift Conduit do?
It sets up and controls an encrypted SFTP connection to a Windows PC or server. A separate SFTP client lets you reach files that your authorized Windows account can access. It is not a cloud backup, file-sync or remote desktop service.
Can I access my storage from another location?
Yes, when the host is reachable from your client. Direct internet access may require router TCP 22 forwarding and a restricted cloud firewall rule. You can also use an existing Tailscale connection; set up Tailscale on both computers separately.
Which Windows systems can host Rift Conduit?
Use Windows 11 x64 or Windows Server 2022/2025 with Desktop Experience, administrator access and .NET Framework 4.7.2 or newer. Bundled OpenSSH sources cover Windows 11 Home/Pro 22H2 through 25H2 and those server releases. Server Core and domain controllers are not supported. See the download page for the detailed requirements.
What is the difference between Allowed IP and Server address?
Allowed IP is the source IPv4 address of the computer or network you connect from. Host / Server in your SFTP client is the reachable address of the computer running Rift Conduit. They normally refer to different sides of the connection.
Does access stop when I close the application window?
No. An active listener remains available while the license or trial permits it. Use Turn Off to stop access yourself. The trial deadline continues to apply when the window is closed or the computer is shut down.
Does this restrict an account to one folder?
No. Windows account permissions govern access, and accounts created through Rift Conduit are local administrators. The SFTP starting folder is C:\. Choose and protect the account accordingly.
Can I use an existing Windows account?
Yes. The intended existing local account must be authorized in Rift Conduit’s SFTP access group. Administrator membership alone does not authorize the account. Open the installed existing-account guide for the steps; authorizing an account does not change its password.
Is Tailscale required?
No. A reachable IPv4 connection also works. The optional checkbox adds a firewall allowance for Tailscale’s IPv4 range, 100.64.0.0/10. Rift Conduit does not install Tailscale or set up your network.
When does the two-day trial begin?
It starts when you explicitly choose Start Trial in the application and lasts 48 elapsed hours. Installing alone does not start it. At expiry, Rift Conduit stops its managed listener and sessions and removes its own firewall rules. Accounts and settings remain.
What does the $7.99 license include?
The current offer includes a lifetime license for the activated computer, lifetime technical support and lifetime upgrades. There is no recurring subscription. Purchase through Stripe, then enter the supplied ten-digit key in Rift Conduit to activate.
Does activation require an internet connection?
Yes. Explicit activation requires approval from the licensing server. Once registered, normal license checks are local, with no routine licensing-server requests. An uninstall and reinstall requires the key and online activation again; an ordinary in-place upgrade preserves registration.
Are my files uploaded to your company?
No. Your SFTP connection is between your client and your Windows host. Rift Conduit does not send drive contents or the SFTP account password to AI Creations Now Software Development. Explicit activation sends the licensing information described in the privacy policy.
Can the remote storage appear as a drive letter?
Yes, through a compatible third-party remote-drive client configured for SFTP. Rift Conduit provides the server connection; it does not mount the drive itself. The local guide includes client options, which may have separate pricing or requirements.
What should I check if the connection fails?
Confirm the ready status in Rift Conduit, the client’s source IPv4, the server address, TCP port 22, your account password and SFTP access-group membership. Check any router, Windows or cloud firewall rules. If you use Tailscale, confirm both computers are connected to the intended network. Existing block rules or an unrelated listener on port 22 can prevent access.
